How to be found on Google when you run a hotel in Douala
The first thing to fix is not your website: it is your Google business listing. It is free, it sits above every result, and most hotels in Douala fill it in badly.

1. The business listing comes first
When somebody types “hotel Douala Makepe” on a phone, Google shows a map with three places. Those three take most of the calls. Being one of them does not depend on your advertising budget but on the quality of your listing.
What lifts it: an exact category, correct opening hours, a number that answers, recent and plentiful photos, and above all reviews. A place with fifteen recent reviews outranks one with three old ones, all else being equal.
2. Ask for reviews, properly
Reviews do not arrive on their own. They arrive when you ask, at the right moment: at the end of the stay, at checkout, while the guest is still there and happy.
A short link sent on WhatsApp after departure works better than a sign at reception. And answer every review, including the bad ones: Google sees it, and so do future guests.
3. The site, which turns the visit into a booking
The listing gets you found. The site decides whether the traveller books with you or goes back to a platform. Three things matter, in this order: real and recent photos, a visible price or range, and a way to book in three taps without creating an account.
On a phone, a WhatsApp button that opens a pre-filled conversation converts better than a form, because it looks like what the traveller already does all day.
4. Pages that answer real searches
Travellers do not only search “hotel Douala”. They search “hotel near Douala airport”, “hotel with a pool Douala”, “meeting room Douala”.
Each of those deserves its own page with a concrete answer: the real distance in minutes, the size of the room, what breakfast includes. That is what your competitors are not doing, and that is where the space is.
What is a waste of time
Buying links, repeating “hotel Douala” twenty times on a page, or publishing an article a week unrelated to your business. Google has long been able to tell whether a page actually answers. The only strategy that holds is genuinely being the best result for a precise question.
Questions that come up
How long before it has an effect?
The business listing can produce calls within days. Site ranking is measured in weeks, sometimes months. So start with the listing.
Should we leave the booking platforms?
No, not at once. They bring guests you cannot reach alone. The goal is balance: keep their visibility, but bring back directly the guests who already know you.
Is your case different?
Tell us where you stand. You get an answer about your situation, not a sales pitch.
